History Boston Marathon

The Boston Marathon was first run in April 1897, inspired by the revival of the marathon for the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens. It is the oldest continuously running marathon, and the second longest continuously running footrace in North America, having debuted five months after the Buffalo Turkey Trot.

On April 19, 1897, ten years after the establishment of the B.A.A., the association held the 24.5 miles (39.4 km) marathon to conclude its athletic competition, the B.A.A. Games. The event was scheduled for the recently established holiday of Patriots Day, with the race linking the Athenian and American struggles for liberty. The race, which became known as the Boston Marathon, has been held every year since then, making it the world's oldest annual marathon. In 1924, the starting line was moved from Metcalf's Mill in Ashland to Hopkinton Green and the course was lengthened to 26 miles 385 yards (42.195 km) to conform to the standard set by the 1908 Summer Olympics and codified by the IAAF in 1921.

The Boston Marathon was originally a local event, but its fame and status have attracted runners from all over the world. For most of its history, the Boston Marathon was a free event, and the only prize awarded for winning the race was a wreath woven from olive branches. However, corporate-sponsored cash prizes began to be awarded in the 1980s, when professional athletes began to refuse to run the race without cash awards. The first cash prize for winning the marathon was awarded in 1986.

Walter A. Brown was the President of the Boston Athletic Association from 1941 to 1964. In 1951, during the height of the Korean War, Brown denied Koreans entry into the Boston Marathon. He stated: "While American soldiers are fighting and dying in Korea, every Korean should be fighting to protect his country instead of training for marathons. As long as the war continues there, we positively will not accept Korean entries for our race on April 19."

Women were not allowed to enter the Boston Marathon officially until 1972. Roberta "Bobbi" Gibb is recognized, by the race organizers, as the first woman to run the entire Boston Marathon (in 1966). In 1967, Kathrine Switzer, who had registered as "K. V. Switzer", was the first woman to run and finish with a race number. She finished despite a famous incident in which race official Jock Semple tried to rip off her numbers and eject her from the race. In 1996 the B.A.A. retroactively recognized as champions the unofficial women's leaders of 1966 through 1971. In 2011, about 43 percent of the entrants were female.
Rosie Ruiz scandal

Scandal came to the Boston Marathon in 1980 when amateur runner Rosie Ruiz came from out of nowhere to win the women's race. Marathon officials became suspicious when it was discovered Ruiz did not appear in race videotapes until near the end of the race. A subsequent investigation concluded that Ruiz had skipped most of the race and blended into the crowd about one mile (1.6 km) from the finish line, where she then ran to her apparent victory. Ruiz was officially disqualified, and the winner was proclaimed to be Canadian Jacqueline Gareau.
Deaths

In 1996, a 62-year-old Swedish man died of a heart attack during the 100th anniversary event. In 2002, Cynthia Lucero, 28, died of hyponatremia.
2011 Boston Marathon

On Monday, April 18, 2011 Geoffrey Mutai of Kenya won the Boston Marathon in a time of 2:03:02.In recognizing Mutai's mark as the "fastest Marathon ever run", the International Association of Athletics Federations noted that the performance was not eligible for world record status given that the course does not satisfy rules regarding elevation drop and start/finish separation (the latter requirement being intended to prevent advantages gained from a strong tailwind, as was the case in 2011). The Associated Press reported that Mutai has the support of other runners who describe the IAAF's rules as "flawed". According to the Boston Herald, race director Dave McGillivray said he was sending paperwork to the IAAF to have Mutai's mark ratified as a world record. The AP also indicated that the attempt to have the mark certified as a world record "would force the governing bodies to reject an unprecedented performance on the world's most prestigious marathon course".
2013 bombings
Main article: Boston Marathon bombings

During the 2013 Boston Marathon, on April 15, 2013 at 2:49 p.m. EDT, nearly three hours after the winners crossed the finish line, two explosions occurred about 200 yards (180 m) apart on Boylston Street, in approximately the last 225 yards (200 m) of the course. The race was halted, preventing many from finishing.Three spectators were killed and more than 200 people were injured.Entrants who completed at least half the course and did not finish due to the bombings were given automatic entry in 2014.

Paul Walker Biography

Paul Walker Biography
Film Actor, Television Actor (1973–2013)
Paul Walker was an American actor who came to fame in movies such as Varsity Blues and became well-known for his starring role in The Fast and the Furious franchise.
Synopsis

Born in California in 1973, Paul Walker made his big-screen debut in the 1986 horror spoof Monster in Your Closet. After appearing in several television shows in the 1990s, including Charles in Charge, Who's the Boss? and The Young and the Restless, Walker gained attention with a role in the 1999 film Varsity Blues, and his TV days were officially behind him. After working in teen movies such as She's All That and The Skulls, Walker got his breakthrough role in 2001 with The Fast and the Furious, which would become his star vehicle and keep him busy through four sequels and a short prequel. The Fast and the Furious franchise established Walker as an action-film mainstay, and he went on to appear in several films in the genre, including Takers, Hours and Vehicle 19. Walker died in a car accident on November 30, 2013, at age 40.
Early Years

Born on September 12, 1973, in Glendale, California, Paul Walker appeared in front of the camera at a young age, modeling and acting in television shows such as Charles in Charge, Highway to Heaven and Who's the Boss. In 1986, he made his film debut in the horror spoof Monster in the Closet while also landing a recurring role on TV's Throb.

After high school, Walker attended various California community colleges, but he dove into acting full-time in 1993, taking a role in the soap opera The Young and the Restless. After a handful of TV guest roles and the lead in Tammy and the T-Rex, Walker starred in the family comedy Meet the Deedles and left his TV career behind for good.

Walker's next role was a big one for his career: He appeared opposite Reese Witherspoon in the critically acclaimed, high-concept Pleasantville. From that point on, Walker found himself in starring roles in such late-1990s films as She's All That, Varsity Blues and The Skulls—all pitched at a teen audience which helped turn Walker into a heartthrob.

The Role of a Lifetime

In 2001, Walker's career hit overdrive when he landed a leading role alongside up-and-comer Vin Diesel in The Fast and the Furious. A film that paid homage to road films of the 1970s, The Fast and the Furious brought Walker to new heights of fame on the way to box-office receipts of more than $200 million.

Two years later, the franchise was back with its first sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and Walker was again along for the ride. The film's gross was even larger than the first, and a bona fide hit series was under way. Walker then appeared in a few more action-oriented movies, including Timeline (2003), Into the Blue (2005) and Running Scared (2006), while also signing on to appear in the ensemble drama Noel (2004) and the children's adventure movie Eight Below (2006).

Walker also showed his range as an actor in the 2006 war drama Flags of Our Fathers, directed by Clint Eastwood. He continued to take on more action movie roles in The Death and Life of Bobby Z (2007), Takers (2010) and Fast Five (2011)—the third installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. In 2012, Walker signed on to film Fast & Furious 6 (2013), keeping the series' momentum going.

While not filming, Walker was active in Reach Out Worldwide, a nonprofit organization he formed in 2010 to bring aid to regions devastated by natural disasters.

Tragic Death

Walker died in a car accident on November 30, 2013 at the age of 40. Walker was in Santa Clarita, California to attend a charity event for Reach Out Worldwide to benefit victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. He was reportedly in the passenger seat of a Porsche when his friend who was driving lost control, crashing the vehicle into a tree. The car was engulfed in flames and both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

At the time of his death, Walker had finished on Brick Mansions and was working on Fast & Furious 7, both slated to be released in 2014.

iPhone 6 Plus Has A Serious Bending Issue‏

Apple always has one or two problems with new updates to the iPhone design, the iPhone 4 had antenna issues and easily cracked with double glass, the iPhone 5 had faulty buttons and battery life and the iPhone 6…bends.

The reports started coming from users who had the iPhone 6 Plus inside their pockets, when taking it back out, they noticed the phone had started to bend. Reports appear to be more on the iPhone 6 Plus than the iPhone 6, due to its larger size.

YouTubers started posting videos of the iPhone 6 Plus easily being bent under pressure. This went from bending it with hands to reconstructing putting the phone in your pocket and seeing how long it took to bend.

The results are almost unanimous, even though most users take special care with their new iPhones, it looks like unless you own a case or do not put your phone is your pocket, it is hard not to bend the iPhone 6 Plus.

This is not the first phone to bend, but since it is Apple people have started the #BendGate, a play on the #GamersGate and other “Gate” hashtags, involving a controversial topic. BendGate has been some of the worst PR Apple could have hoped for, mocking the new design heavily.

The major reason the iPhone 6 Plus bends rather easily is due to two factors: one, Apple decided to build it 7.1 millimeters thin, making it extremely light and made of a thin sheet of aluminium; two, Apple did not put a magnesium case inside the iPhone 6 Plus, which is known for making phones more durable.

We expect Apple will make an official announcement later this month, announcing new refund or replacement options for customers affected. We would not be surprised to hear a small change on the design front for the iPhone 6 Plus, to fix the bending issue.

Nexus 6, Nexus 9 & Nexus Player All Launched By Google

The Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 have been announced by Google earlier today, alongside Android 5.0 Lollipop, the new updated operating system. Google has also launched a new Android TV media player, called Nexus Player.
The announcement happened on Google’s official blog, sadly without an event. The two new devices will be Google’s showpieces for 2014 and the best-part of 2015, the Nexus 6 developed in partnership with Motorola, the Nexus 9 with HTC and the Nexus Player with ASUS.

The Motorola Nexus 6 looks like a blown-up version of the Moto X (2014 Edition) with the same metal frame, soft-touch back and minimalist front. The difference is the Moto X has a 5.2-inch full HD display, while the Nexus 6 has a 6-inch QHD display, with a 2560 x 1440 resolution.
This is pretty big for a smartphone, but it doesn’t stop there, Google has packed the Nexus 6 with powerful internals. Starting with the 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805 CPU, 3GB of RAM and Adreno 420 GPU. The Nexus 6 also has a 3220mAh battery for a good few days without charge.
Google has added a 13MP OIS camera on the back of the device and dual-front facing speakers, for excellent photos and audio.
The newly released Android Lollipop update will come first to the Nexus 6. This brings a new design language, called Material Design, better notifications and faster multi-tasking, on top of other changes to make the OS even better and more comprehensive.
No word on price or international availability. Google will start pre-orders sometime this month, with a release date of October 29.

Google also announced the Nexus 9 today, in partnership with HTC. This is the first tablet HTC has developed ever since the HTC Flyer disaster in 2011. The new tablet has a minimal design, with a metallic frame on the side and rather large bezels on the front.
Again, Google is banking on killer specs to win the battle for tablet lover’s hearts. They have packed a Nvidia Tegra K1 processor and 3GB of RAM onto the Nexus 9, alongside a 8.9-inch IPS display (unknown resolution).
Google has added Android Lollipop on the Nexus 9 as well. We can see the appeal of the tablet, but it will all come down to price whether this is a best-seller or another niche Android tablet.
Pre-orders will start on October 17, the Nexus 9 will launch on November 3.

Windows 10 Announced by Microsoft in San Francisco

Microsoft has officially announced Windows 10, not Windows 9 like most people were expecting. It looks to be a rather big update and at the event in San Francisco, Microsoft only revealed small parts of the new update.

Windows 10 will be available for all types of devices, anything from a four-inch smartphone to an 80-inch TV. Microsoft is looking for incredible scalability as well, with Windows 10 able to run on a small microprocessor or on something fit for Azure servers.

Windows 10 is for everyone – and it runs deeper than the scale. Microsoft has turned back on the radical ideas of Windows 8, the Metro UI and full touch-interface, replacing it with a more timid crossover between Windows 7 and Windows 8.

This crossover looks to be the bridge in the gap we all want. It brings back the Start Menu, but with a new funky Metro UI. For power users, Microsoft is adding Task View and Snap Attachments, to give second or third monitor users more room to work and be productive.

Microsoft is also pushing Windows 10 to the enterprise, with more security, a simple interface that does not need to be “taught” to employees and a bigger split between personal and professional accounts.

Windows 10 comes with some of the more controversial Windows 8 features, like the Charms menu and the Metro UI for Touch. Microsoft has toned down these features and looks to make them only for touch users, keeping keyboard and mouse users happy.

What we didn’t get from the announcement were facts. We still don’t know how much Windows 10 will cost, if it will be a subscription model or free for Windows 8 buyers. We do know that it will be released after BUILD on April 2015, but Microsoft wouldn’t talk about universal apps or Windows Phone.
