TIPS DETOX

TIPS
  •     Detox with a friend. You can support each other through rough patches and applaud successes, as well as sharing recipes and tips.
  •     Try to find time for light exercise. Yoga, Pilates, swimming or brisk walking is ideal. Don't attempt strenuous activities such as running or weight training while fasting.
  •     Eat slowly. During a detox, you can stretch out your meals by chewing thoroughly and without hurry. Slow eating also aids digestion.
  •     Treat yourself to a massage. Book time with a professional, or use an exfoliating mitt to work on your own skin.
  •     Get some rest. You might find that detoxing makes you feel more energetic, or that it increases your lethargy. Either way, it's important to get sufficient sleep while you're fasting. Make sure you clock at least 8 hours a night, with afternoon naps added if necessary.

Warnings
  •     Don't fast to the point of passing out. If you faint or feel strongly that you will, your diet has gone too far. Immediately eat a piece of bread or a cookie to improve your blood sugar, and try to consume an electrolyte-rich sports drink. Lie or sit down, and put your head between your knees if possible. Do not resume the diet.
  •     Don't do a liquid fast for more than 3 days in a row.
  •     Some detoxes may cause lethargy in the first day or two, so give yourself time to relax and avoid strenuous activity.
  •     Even if you feel great on your fast, don't continue detoxing for more than 10 to 14 days at most. Long-term fasting or starvation can do irreversible damage to your metabolism.
  •     Most medical professionals believe that the liver and kidneys provide adequate detoxification without special diets. Be aware that you might not notice a large difference in your health.
  •     Don't just follow any detox diet you find online. Many of these are unsafe under any circumstances. Always run your plan past your general practitioner or a licensed nutritionist

Long-Term Detox Practices

Eat organically grown produce and meat.
Conventional produce is grown with chemical fertilizers and synthetic insecticides, while organic produce is grown with natural fertilizers and pesticides. Organic meats have far fewer harmful antibiotics, growth hormones, and medications that are fed to animals on conventional farms.
  • Check labels to determine whether or not a food is organic. Organic foods should have a green USDA Certified Organic Seal.

Drink enough water.
Getting enough water is essential to your health. Among its other health benefits, water helps maintain your body's fluid levels, which helps your kidneys flush out the body's main toxin, blood urea nitrogen
  • Drink lemon water. Add lemon, orange, or lime juice to your water throughout the day. These fruits contain citric acid, which helps your body cut down fat. Plus, adding flavor to your water can make it a lot easier to get those 8 daily cups in! Brush your teeth in between meals to prevent acid erosion from the lemons.
Cut out alcohol.
Research has suggested that alcohol may be linked with the onset of certain types of cancer, including breast cancer in women. Though you don't have to cut it out entirely, stick to one glass of wine or beer a night, at most.

Avoid added sugars.
Consuming excess sugar on a regular basis can cause your blood sugar levels to spike, putting you at greater risk for heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers in the long-run. Read all nutrition labels and beware of added sugars in bread, salad dressings, and sauces.

Limit your exposure to harmful toxins in the air.
These include carbon monoxide and asbestos, both of which may be found in homes.
  • Carbon monoxide is a potentially fatal odorless chemical that is produced from furnaces, grills, and car engines. Side-effects include headaches, dizziness, and lethargy.Consider getting a carbon monoxide detector in your home, and keep your home properly ventilated.
  • Homes and buildings should be properly tested for asbestos.

Meditate.
Many religions and philosophies advocate fasting as a way of refocusing the mind and developing a sense of peace. While you're detoxifying your body, try to rid yourself of grudges, anger, sadness and other negative feelings. Use the time you would usually spend eating or preparing food to think about your goals and aspirations. Distill your thoughts in a journal.

Don't overdo it:
Above all, find a balanced, achievable program that combines daily exercise and changes to a healthy diet, with regular, qualified supervision. Remember you are trying to set the stage for healthy habits - not further stress your body with rapid, extreme and unsustainable change. Try to avoid binging as you come off of detoxing.

How to Detox health

Detoxification, or detox, is the process of removing toxic substances from the body. Diets that claim to effect a full detox in a matter of days have been around for decades, and several different methods exist. While not scientifically proven to remove any toxins from the human body, many people claim feeling more focused and energetic during and after detox diets, most likely because of avoiding processed foods.

Note: This article does not contain information on how to detoxify someone undergoing treatment for alcoholism or substance abuse. Detoxing from alcohol or other hard substances, particularly benzodiazepines, should always be conducted under the supervision of a medical professional.

Steps

Part One:

Short-Term Detoxes
Do a fruit detox. Fruit detoxes are a great way to fast without starving yourself. Among other health benefits, getting enough fruit can increase your energy levels, help manage your weight, and even reduce the likelihood of stroke. You can either detox by eating a variety of different fruits, or by only eating one kind of fruit. For best results, choose a fruit that you enjoy eating so that you don't feel like you're suffering. Do not exceed 7 days in a row of a fruit-only diet.

Do a liquid fast
Consume nothing but liquids (water, tea, fruit juice, vegetable juice, and/or protein shakes) for 2-3 days. Liquid diets can help jump-start weight loss by restricting caloric intake, and are believed to cleanse your body of certain toxins, though there is no solid research to back up this claim
  • Be sure to include fruit and/or vegetable juices in your liquid fast to ensure that your body is getting the proper nourishment.
  • If your goal is to lose weight, then you will have to change your eating habits once the liquid fast is over, or you will simply gain all the weight back.

Eat only fruits and vegetables for 7 days
Fruits and vegetables contain the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. Be sure to eat a diverse combination of produce to ensure that you are getting the proper nutrients. Use the following guide to determine what to eat during your fast:
  • Get fiber from kidney beans, black beans, apples, soybeans, blueberries, and artichokes.
  • Get potassium from carrots, bananas, lima beans, white potatoes, cooked greens, and sweet potatoes.
  • Get Vitamin C from kiwis, strawberries, kale, cauliflower, tomatoes, oranges, Brussels sprouts, mangoes, and bell peppers.
  • Get folate from cooked spinach, melons, asparagus, oranges, and black eyed peas.
    • Get good fats from avocado, olives, and coconut

How to Soothe a Burnt Tongue

Ouch! A burn on the tongue can be very painful. Here are some tips to ease the pain. This article assumes the burn is caused by high temperatures, not the "heat" created by capsaicin. For that, see How to Cool Burns from Chili Peppers.

Edit Steps

    1
Apply something cool immediately. Make sure that contact with the cool item is maintained for at least a full minute. This will help the heat dissipate more quickly so it doesn't do as much damage on your tongue cells. Here are some ideas: ice cubes or crushed ice, a popsicle, frozen fruit, or ice cream. Yogurt is considered medically to be the best thing for a burnt tongue, so use that too!

A cold drink works too. Just stick your tongue in the drink, and you will instantly feel great. You can also use ice water.

    2
Numb the pain. A burnt tongue can be quite uncomfortable. If you have any anesthetic ointment, rub it on the surface of your tongue. Look for products containing benzocaine, which is a topical anesthetic, and are often sold to treat mouth ulcers: Anbesol, Kank+a, Orabase B, Orajel. Anesthetic mouthwash may help as well.

    3
Suck on cough drops. Look for cough drops that contain benzocaine and/or menthol. Menthol, like benzocaine, acts as a local anesthetic

    4
Until healing occurs, stay away from acidic foods like tomatoes, citrus fruits and juices, items with vinegar, pop, etc., as well as salty items like potato chips, since these items will irritate the area.

How to Keep to Your Diet

Writing down what you eat is one basic principle. A second principle is to read the food labels. Make sure your grocery items include a lot of fiber and little fat, that equates to a lot of vegetables, fruits, peas and beans and low fat dairy products.

Steps

  1. Eat a snack if you're starting to get hungry but have a few hours till dinner / lunch - especially important around 4pm, when you're between lunch and dinner. If you wait and starve yourself you will be more likely to overeat or eat too fast at dinner.

  2. Do not buy non-diet foods. If it's not in the house, you cannot eat it.If you need a treat and have earned it (by eating well or exercising, not having a bad day) go out and buy one cookie. Don't keep a bag of special treat cookies in the house, they only convince you that you deserve one when you don't. And yes, when you deserve one, have one. Or better yet, think of a way you can treat yourself that has nothing to do with food!

  3. Understand that if you are engaging in an activity that you usually snack during, find something to do with your hands instead of eating. Take up knitting, learn to sew, write those thank-you cards, anything to keep you from munching mindlessly while you watch TV, etc.

  4. Remember if you eat bar peanuts compulsively, sit away from the bowl. You will be less likely to reach over someone else to get to them. Find fun exercise. Join a cool gym that has fun classes, enroll in a dance class with friends, go somewhere beautiful to walk. Get friends to do it with you so that you have company and moral support and someone to hold you accountable, or, walk a dog if you really need someone to remind you to go outside twice a day.

  5. Know that if you are really craving something, like M&M's, just eat a few. Don't try to satisfy the urge by eating everything else in the house. You will never feel as satisfied and will probably overeat. If you are compulsive, have a trusted friend dole out two to you and stick to it!

  6. Eat more dense foods like carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, these foods will curb your cravings. These foods are very healthy for you, so you do not have to worry about gains. Do not eat them cooked, eat them raw.(cooking vegetables removes the density of it.)

  7. Make sure to drink plenty of water! 8 glasses a day! Sometimes when you are dehydrated you compensate by eating when really your body just needs water.

Tips

  • Disregard anyone or any ad that says that there is a quick fix.
  • Don't think of it as a diet, think about it as a lifestyle choice.
  • Think about how much junk you're eating on a daily basis; if you eat 5 bars of chocolate a day, cut down to four the first day, then 3 the next, etc. then replace your unhealthy snacks with fruit!
  • Stay AWAY from the unhealthy sections in the supermarket. Better yet, if you can, order your food online when you've made a list of food and checked with the helpers at the supermarket that they think it's healthy. They'll be happy to help, and there's always websites on the internet to help you too.
  • Think about how good you'll look after, and more importantly- how you'll feel. If you're dealing with an unhealthy lifestyle, things are going to be harder.
  • .running
  • .blood circulation
  • .nasty comments
  • .and even walking because of your breathing! Yes, if you eat more healthily you will be able to breathe better.
  • Take up a sport:
  • .jogging
  • .running
  • .football
  • .tennis
  • .swimming
  • .walking
  • Believe in your self! You're doing this for YOU. If you're doing it for someone else you are not doing it for the right reasons.

How to Avoid Having Sagging Breasts As A Young Woman

At any given time, a woman may have issues with the way her breasts look. Simple lifestyle tips that include self breast massage, combined with proper bra fittings will help anyone's breasts look the best they can look. Keep in mind that while bras temporarily decrease sagging in breasts, wearing a bra does not prevent natural sagging.

Steps

  Wear a supportive brassiere

Wear a supportive brassiere (bra). The way to look your best and protect the tissue of your breasts is to wear a bra that fits properly.

Have yourself properly fitted. Many women do not wear the correct bra, and they end up with something that doesn't do its job.

  • Look for a quality store which specializes in bras and foundation items. This can be a department store, specialty shop, or foundation store. These stores employ staff who are knowledgeable and stock a wide selection of BRANDS of quality products and bras for harder to fit women.
  • Consult with a professional bra fitter and have your body properly measured. Many quality lingerie stores and department stores offer this service for free.
  • Feeling shy? That's normal. Bring a female friend, a relative, or your mother. It's always nice to have someone at your side!

Select the correct bra for your needs.
  • Choose a bra with a wide back strap. The wider the back strap the more support you get in front. This may include bras with 3-6 hooks. You may like the look of a lacy bra with a one hook closure in the back, but it won't support larger breasts. Fortunately, colorful, lacy, cute, and/or sexy supportive bras can now be found in even the largest sizes.
  • Choose a bra designed to support large breasts. Many companies make structured bras designed to hold larger breasts firmly and comfortably.
  • Wear a supportive sports bra. This is particularly important in sports that have a lot of movement and bouncing, like running, soccer (football), and rugby. Larger breasted woman may need to shop for specialty sportswear online or in catalogs. Though it might be tempting, do not double up with sports bras. There are better options available even for the largest breasted women.

Make sure you are wearing your bra correctly

  1. Put on your bra correctly. Take the proper amount of time to get dressed and be sure your straps are adjusted to your back. Straps tend to move around and get twisted during laundering. Handwash your bras whenever possible. Allowing them to air dry, rather than putting them in the dryer, will make them last longer. Be sure and shape the cups as they are drying.
  2. Lean forward when putting on your bra to ensure your chest is centered and perky. Also, make sure the middle of the bra is centered with your body.
  3. Look for the mid-point on your arm and your nipple line should be level with that middle area of your arm. If it is too low you aren't getting enough support.

Avoid health-related problems with breasts

1. The absolute best thing you can do to reduce the potential problems of sagging and fibro cystic lumps is to self-massage your breasts at least 3 to 5 times a week. This does two wonderful things: It releases stagnated fluids in the breasts for optimal breast health. It also can result in re-shaping and lifting them. Use a natural, organic breast massage oil, made just for breasts, for an enjoyable and deeply relaxing self breast massage.

2. Consult your physician. He or she might have some ideas that can help, or reassure you that your body is perfectly normal.
  • Your health care specialist may suggest a weight loss plan. It is common for women to gain weight in their chest. Don't be offended if your doctor puts you on a diet--you can't escape your genetic code. Your body may store fatty cells in your breast tissue, whereas other woman store it in their hips, thighs, and abdomen.
  • Avoid yo-yo dieting. If you are constantly changing cup sizes, the repeating weight gain and loss will inevitably stretch your breast tissue.
  • Report persistent back pain. You may need supplemental back support or a prescribed custom bra for your needs.

Do not go braless

1. Avoid going braless. Gravity will inevitably cause your breasts to sag. Going without a bra for extended periods of time will further stretch the breast tissue.

2. Do not wear your bra more than 12 hours a day. Studies have shown that wearing a bra more than 12 hours a day may increase breast cancer risk. Extended wearing of tight bras "cages" toxins within the breast tissue by preventing the natural flow of the lymphatic fluids, which are designed to cleanse these toxins out of the tissues.

Tips

  • Stop obsessing. There's nothing wrong with large breasts if they're put in a flattering, well-fitting bra.
  • Don't compare yourself to other women. Everybody's body is different. "Sagging" breasts, for example, are often simply healthy and perfect breasts that need a little support to look and feel their best. That's just as normal and healthy as women with tiny breasts.
  • Specific back exercises can help alleviate back pain associated with having larger breasts. By strengthening your back muscles, you will be able to support your chest without odd leaning and poor posture. Many women develop their breasts quickly and underdeveloped back muscles may lack the strength necessary to support the growing chest. Make back workouts a frequent part of your workout plan.
  • Work on your posture. Again, while it doesn't change the breast itself, it will make your chest look even better. Always hold your shoulders back.
  • Launder your bra correctly. A worn bra will not support or protect you correctly. Hand wash or utilize a lingerie bag. Wash your bras in a gentle laundry soap with cold water. Hang to dry or dry flat and don't expose the bras to the heat of the dryer. The dryer heat will deteriorate the elastic.
  • Buy bras regularly. An average woman's bra will last 3-6 months under typical use. After that, they start losing support.
  • Lift and separate. Keep your breast lifted and separate with bras and appropriately fitting tops. Don't squish them together or flatten them down. It won't flatter you.

Warnings

  • Forget "miracle creams" or "bust creams." They don't work and can be potentially dangerous because they are full of chemicals and preservatives, which you do NOT want to put on your breasts. The skin absorbs everything, and these products may be toxic.
  • If you have pendulous breasts, avoid clothing items with little or no support, like spaghetti-top dresses, shelf bra camisoles, and so on. They won't look flattering and won't support you.
  • Consider plastic surgery only in extreme cases. Keep in mind that plastic surgery is real surgery with real risks of mistakes, injury, and death.

How to Heal Breast Implants

In 2010, nearly 300,000 women received breast implants in the United States alone, making breast augmentation the nation's most sought after cosmetic surgical procedure. Breast implants are surgically placed under the skin of a woman's breasts to make them larger or fuller. Breast implants also can be used to make uneven breasts the same size as each other. After breast augmentation, the breasts can take several weeks to heal. Follow these steps on how to heal breast implants.

Steps

Listen to your doctor. Instructions for recovery are distributed by the doctor on a case by case basis. Based on your age, physical attributes and health issues your doctor will tell you what you're allowed and not allowed to do in the weeks following your surgery.

Avoid doing anything involving excessive force, abrasion or motion, such as lifting heavy items, playing tennis or jumping on a trampoline. This is important because you don't want to put the surgical incisions or new implants under any undue stress or strain.

Take medicine. After surgery, you will be prescribed medication to apply directly on the scars or take orally to aid healing and/or reduce pain. The medication also will reduce the risk of infection to your enhanced breasts.

  • Spread the doctor prescribed topical medication on the scars and breasts. This will help heal the breast scars and tissue externally. Some topical medications also numb the pain resulting from the surgery.
  • Take the doctor prescribed oral medication. This will help to heal the breast scars and tissue internally, as well as provide pain relief.
Apply a moisturizer that contains shea butter to your breasts. After breast implant surgery, your breasts can become red, hot or shiny because the skin has been stretched. By applying shea butter, you can prevent the skin from developing stretch marks.

Wear a supportive bra that reduces breast movement. The best type of bra for this would be a sports/athletic bra. Keeping your augmented breasts as motionless as possible will help you heal faster. A bra lacking the required support will result in undue stress and strain on your new implants.

Sleep on your back up to 10 days after surgery. Applying pressure to your breasts by sleeping on top of them after surgery can cause broken incisions, resulting in undue pain and return trips to the doctor to repair the incisions.

Tips

  • If you have any questions during your breast surgery recovery period, consult your doctor.
  • Most plastic surgeons offer free consultations to potential patients. Talk to a doctor and find out if the process of getting breast implants is something you're prepared to do. The surgery can be painful and the recovery time lasts several weeks.

How to Avoid Getting HIV

HIV and AIDS are very serious diseases.Public knowledge and a heightened awareness of this epidemic will help curb and prevent people from contracting HIV. It has been estimated that nearly half of the worlds population will eventually die of HIV, if a cure for the disease is not found soon enough. No person is immune from HIV. It can and will infect anybody that has been exposed to the virus. The virus does not choose its victim, so adequate precautions are necessary and extremely important in order to control this epidemic. Increased awareness of sexual behavior is the key to prevention. Associated precautions concerning blood and blood related exposure is also essential. Not contracting it can help save millions, because HIV spreads exponentially. Here's how to help the non-infected population.

Steps

Don't have sex. Simply masturbate if you must. Abstinence is great to avoid contracting Hiv or AIDS. Make better use of your sexual fantasies, allowing them to play in your mind only. Sleeping with someone involves sleeping with their sexual history as well.

If you must have sex, wear a condom. Take adequate precautions by ensuring that the condoms are not expired. Use good quality latex condoms that is unlikely to tear or break while having sex. Use water based lubricants if you must. Oil based lubricants used with latex condoms, render condoms unsafe. Latex condoms are easily damaged or susceptible to tearing or breaking when used with oil based lubricants.

Avoid body piercing performed down the street at local body piercing outlets. Most frequently these outlets do not use safe, hygienic or sterile practices. Contaminated instruments will result in you being infected with Hiv. Ear piercing can also be done at reputable jewelry stores where people employ sterile ear piercing procedures.

If you are a drug user, do not share needles and syringes. You will simply be injecting yourself with the Hiv virus. Sterile needles and syringes are available at pharmacies and clinics. Although drug use should not be condoned, your local pharmacy will sell them to you as a paying customer. The real reason behind the purchase need not be known.

Abstain from oral sex without using condoms. The risk of contracting Hiv is much higher when practicing oral sex. The virus is present in its most concentrated form in the semen. Avoid brushing your teeth immediately before and after performing oral sex. Gum bleeding is usually increased with brushing, also creating a greater risk of infection and the virus entering your bloodstream

Refrain from practicing anal sex. The skin around the anus is most sensitive to tearing and being damaged. This allows the semen containing the virus to directly enter the blood stream.

Those already infected should be aware of re-infecting themselves. This may sound strange but even those already infected with Hiv can be re-infected. This mostly happens when some one re-infects themselves with a different strain of the Hiv virus. This can have serious repercussions if the individual is on treatment with anti -retrovirals. This simply means being on treatment to stabilize the immune system for full blown AIDS patients. The treatment may not be as effective for the newly infected virus and drug resistance is also most likely to develop. That is the treatment will not be as effective or may not work at all.

Tips

If you must have sex, practice it as safely as possible. Wear condoms at all times, or just masturbate, that's the safest sex of all.

Warnings

Always tell your partner beforehand, not doing so will result in an HIV-infected partner, and they will be very angry.

How to Avoid Eye Strain While Working at a Computer

Eyestrain is the most common complaint of those who work at a computer. It can cause headaches, dry eyes and even blurred vision. There are plenty of ways to avoid this condition, fortunately, and most are inexpensive or even free.

Steps

  •  Position your monitor at the proper distance and angle. It should be directly in front of you, about 18 to 30 inches away from your face. The monitor should also be a little lower than eye level, with the top of the monitor lined up with your eyes if you were to look straight ahead. This angle will keep your neck in a more natural position, which means your eyes will be less strained to stay in their own position of looking slightly down

  •  Turn down your screen's brightness and turn up the contrast. Screens that are too bright are hard on the eyes; if there's not enough contrast between blacks and whites on your computer screen, your eyes have a hard time distinguishing between different items and computer eyestrain can occur.
  • Eliminate electrostatic particles that may be emitted from the computer screen. These particles can push dust toward your eyes, causing irritation and strain. Keeping the monitor at the proper distance will help, but wiping down your screen with an anti-static solution sprayed onto a cloth will help even more. Do this daily.
  • Purchase a stand for books and papers if you are having to type from one of these sources or use them for reference while on your computer. Put the stand directly next to the screen so your eyes aren't shifting as much. If you can touch type, typing without looking at your keyboard, try to keep your eyes on the book and cut down on how often you're checking your computer screen for typing errors.
  • Create an environment that has lighting similar to that of your monitor. The ideal work space will have soft lights, limited natural light, no fluorescent lighting and surfaces that don't reflect too much light. Switching your bulbs and using blinds in your office may cut down on your eyestrain.
  • Purchase an anti-glare screen for your monitor. This is easier to do for traditional desktop computer monitors than for laptops. This will cut the glare if you're not able to eliminate harsh lighting or adjust your monitor. The screen will also increase your privacy while working.
  • Blink more. Some eyestrain occurs because you naturally blink less often when focusing on something, like your computer screen. Take breaks and sit with your eyes closed for a few seconds to rehydrate your eyes.
  • Use eyeglasses with the proper prescription. If you need bifocals, you may tilt your head at an awkward angle when using the computer so talk to your optometrist to see if progressive lenses may work better. In addition, purchasing lenses with an anti-reflective coating will help cut down on computer glare; you can get plain lenses with this coating even if you don't need vision correction.

How to Make Your Eyes Stop Hurting After Swimming

When you come back from the pool, you may notice that your eyes are red and burn. This is probably because of the chlorine in the pool that you went to. To learn how to treat this annoying problem, there is a solution. Read on!

Steps

  • Tell which eye hurts the worst. Decide which one stings the most and burns the most. This is because only one eye can be treated at a time with this method. If both of your eyes hurt equally, then it doesn't matter which eye you choose to treat first. Try not to do both eyes at once, which might worsen the problem.

  • Go to a sink. It doesn't matter if the sink belongs to the pool staff or if it's at your house. Push the handle that releases hot water. Slowly bend down into the sink, with your eyes facing the ceiling.

  • Put your eye directly under the water. Don't let the water be too cold or hot. Try to open it if the water isn't running at too fast of a speed. Let the water wash out the chlorine that was in your eye by keeping your eye there for a few minutes. 'Do not put soap on your eye, as this will cause the irritation to grow worse.

  • Change which eye is under the sink. If your left eye was there first, put your right eye under now. Or, if your right eye was under the water first, put your left eye under second. Leave this eye under the sink for a few minutes as well, and follow the same procedure at you did for your first eye

  • Dry off your eyes with a towel. Make sure you do not dry them off with the beach towel you were using, as this is wet with chlorine from the pool. If your beach towel that you brought along has not been used yet, then it is alright to dry your eyes off on that towel.

Tips

  • Try wearing goggles next time to avoid this problem.
  • If you are a parent with a child that is too short to bend into the sink, try wetting a paper towel or washcloth with warm water from the sink. Have your child place this over their eye for a few minutes. Then, switch the eye it is over.
  • Don't go into the pool anymore for the day after you follow this procedure. If you do, then you will have to keep doing this over and over again, which could just make your eyes hurt more.
